Apfelkuchen (Apple cake)


  • 200 gram cold butter
  • 500 gram flour
  • 175 gram sugar
  • 1 packet vanilla sugar
  • 1dash of salt
  • 0,25 litre milk                                             
  • 1 yeast cube (42 gram)
  • 1 egg
  • 1,2 kilo apples



For the leavened dough melt 75 gram butter and let it cool down. Then mix flour, 75 gram sugar, vanilla sugar and a dash of salt. Heat the milk up to it is lukewarm and put the yeast in little pieces into it. Dissolve it by stiring. Mix the milk (with the yeast), the egg and the butter with the flour-mixture. Knead it with a mixer to a smooth dough. Let the dough proving for 45 minutes.

Grease a baking plate. Knead the dough with the hands and a bit flour. Roll it out on the baking plate and let it grease for 30 minutes again.

Peel the apples, quarter them, core them and cut them in little pieces. Cut 175 gram butter in little pieces, too. Preheat the oven (electrooven: 200°C; circulating air oven: 175°C; gas oven: level 3).Press a few throughs in the dough and fill them with the apples and the butter. Cover it with 100 gram sugar. Bake the cake 25 minutes in the oven.
